Entertainment was vitally important a few years ago when everyone stayed at home, and this list of Korean movies 2020 features options for those who like mystery, horror, drama, and thrillers.
Finding something to watch isn’t always easy, especially when you’re tired of the same plot over and over. Korean movies 2020 are the perfect solution to that problem.
The following five films are more than just original; they’re captivating. One has a trio of women who are trying to advance in their careers and end up discovering a toxic corporation, and another has two people who are isolated in their apartments due to a zombie apocalypse. The others are just as interesting, so let’s discover them!
5. ‘Samjin Company English Class’ – Go Ah-sung, Esom, and Park Hye-su
This comedy/drama film, set in the 1990s, shows the lives of three women who work at Samjin in low-level positions because they only have high school diplomas. In an attempt to advance in their careers, they start studying English, aiming to score 600 or more on the TOEIC English test.
However, there’s a twist, like in most of this list of Korean movies 2020. While attending a class, one of them discovers a strange business practice from the company (a chemical leak). These three ladies decide to investigate what’s going on and find that the corporation is more toxic than they imagined.
4. ‘Pawn’ – Sung Dong-il, Ha Ji-won, and Kim Hee-won
Anyone who enjoys a good cry should certainly check out this entry of great Korean movies 2020, which centers on two debt collectors, played Sung Dong-il and Kim Hee-won. They take an illegal immigrant’s daughter as collateral when she can’t pay her debt.
Unfortunately, the woman, played by Ha Ji-won, is then deported, and the two men are left taking care of the nine-year-old. Eventually, they form a close family bond. “Pawn” will have you crying just as much as 2013’s “Miracle on Cell No. 7.”
3. ‘#Alive’ – Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-Hye
This list of Korean movies 2020 wouldn’t be complete without “#Alive,” as Korean zombie stories have a way of hitting home deeper than Western takes. This story features two millennials who get stuck in their high-rise apartments when a zombie apocalypse breaks out.
Starring Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-Hye, who are known for many hit K-dramas, this duo must work together from their own homes with the items at their disposal to survive while the world is falling apart.
2. ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ – Lee Jung-jae, Hwang Jung-min, and Park Jeong-min
Not to be confused with the Edgar Ramirez and Eric Bana film, this story features a tired hitman, played by Hwang Jung-min, whose last job was killing a Japanese mobster.
However, he gets called to Thailand when his former girlfriend’s daughter gets kidnapped. He initially refused to help until he found out that his ex was then killed, and the girl was his daughter.
During his search for his child, he encounters Ray, aka “The Butcher,” played by Lee Jung-jae of “Squid Game” fame, who is also the Japanese mobster’s brother and has vowed to avenge his death.
1. ‘The Man Standing Next’ – Lee Byung-hun, Lee Sung-min, and Kwak Do-won
The one number spot on this list of great Korean movies 2020 belongs to “The Man Standing Next,” a dramatization of the 40 days before the real assassination of President Park Chung-hee in 1979.
It follows the killer himself, the head of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency, played by Lee Byung-hun, who is best known now for playing the Frontman in “Squid Game” and voicing the character of Gwi-Ma in “K-pop Demon Hunters.” Anyone who enjoys a good political strategy story should be hooked right away.
There’s something for everybody in this fantastic list of top Korean movies 2020, which evidences that creativity can still shine even when the world goes through a difficult time. Which one are you watching first?
